About

Andrew Sorge

Andrew Sorge is an accomplished young film composer with an impressive background collaborating on various projects in the entertainment industry. Currently Andrew works as a freelance composer and is known for his cinematic scores that bring depth, momentum, and emotional clarity to film, documentaries, and branded storytelling.

Andrew played his first piano compositions in 3rd grade at a talent show just hours after chipping his 2 front teeth on a swing. A couple years later while writing a score for his 5th grade school play, Andrew met Keith Phillips, a very accomplished jazz pianist who played on broadway in his earlier years. Aside from teaching music theory, Keith encouraged Andrew to continue his writing, and 16 years later they even collaborated on a score together.

While attending film school in New York, Andrew studied piano with Derek Wieland, a talented pianist who performs as a keyboardist for Trans Siberian Orchestra. Derek taught Andrew how to hand write compositions, giving him a deeper knowledge into music notation. After completing film school in 2010, Andrew spent two years working for multi-media production company, Brain Farm Digital Cinema, where he took on various audio roles, but more notably, began composing music for their clientele.

In 2012 Andrew went on to work as a freelance film composer, and teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Scott McKay Gibson, whose engineering credits include Alice Cooper and Glen Campbell. The two composed for brands and production companies like Teton Gravity Research, composing scores for TGR’s more notable documentaries like “Andy Irons: Kissed by God” and “Lindsey Vonn: The Final Season”.

During their free time Andrew and Scott started a band called WYO (short for Wyoming). With over 2 millions streams, WYO makes cinematic alternative rock music inspired by nature’s strength and resilience, with songs like “Running Wild” being the soundtrack for films by HBO and others, and “Red” and “Truth or Dare” featured on Spotify’s Discover Weekly, VEVO DSCVR and more. WYO’s songs are an honest look at love and loss, and the soul-searching and clarity that emerges in the space between. Within WYO’s melodies and lyrics are celebratory reminders of the beauty and magic all around us, and nature’s unwavering ability to bring us back to ourselves. Their latest 3rd album, Gemini, is available on all streaming platforms.

Andrew loves bringing stories to life and connecting with people on an emotional level through music. He is certified in Pro Tools digital audio software, and he uses a mix of live sound and midi sampling in most of his work.
